Are You Sure You Want
the Illegals Sent Home?

Many believe that illegal aliens in the United States are getting a free education, are getting free medical care, are taking jobs away from citizens, and are committing a high level of crime.
Is it right that the children of an illegal family receive a free education in our public schools? If they were getting a free ride it would be wrong but their parents pay school taxes just like any regular citizen. It is true that most illegals don't own property and don't pay school taxes directly but they rent and the property owner pays school taxes. This is no different than anyone who rents and has kids in public school. There is the issue of schools spending extra money to provide English language training for Spanish speaking kids. That is not the fault of the illegals, it is the fault of the schools for doing it. Kids learn new languages very fast and there is no need to spend money on special training for Spanish speaking kids. When the kids of a non-English speaking European or Asian immigrants start in a public school there are no special language courses for them and they do just fine.
Many get mad because some illegals get free medical care in our hospitals. That is definitely true but so do millions of U.S. citizens that don't have medical insurance. The number of illegals getting free medical care is small compared to the number of citizens getting free medical care because they don't have insurance. The problem is not with the illegals, the problem is we have a huge medical care issue that is not being solved.
Another misconception is that illegals are taking jobs away from Americans. If that were true the two states with the most illegals, California and Texas, would have high unemployment rates - they don't. The crux of the problem is the United States does not have an immigration plan that allows for temporary workers. For decades the government has keep their head in the sand and let the problem become a mountain instead of a molehill. Get mad at the government, not at the illegals.
People are concerned that illegals are committing a lot of crime. There are a lot of websites, newsletters, and periodicals that provide warped statistics to scare people into believing that immigrants commit more crimes than citizens. In October of 2007 the Immigration Policy Center said "A century of research finds that the crime rates for immigrants are lower than for the native born" and that covers legal and illegal immigrants.
It is true that some Illegals work at pay-in-cash type jobs and don't pay taxes but so do many Americans. Most illegals pay taxes just like we do but many of them eventually return to their home country and never collect Social Security or Medicare. That means much of the money illegals pay in Social Security and Medicare taxes ends up subsidizing our benefits. Over the years this has added up to billions of dollars. That is money that will help pay for our benefits.
I am a born in the USA Caucasian, I just don't believe in hate that is not based on the facts. We do have an illegal alien problem but sending them all home and building a wall on the border is not the answer. First we need an immigration policy that provides enough work visas to satisfy legitimate employer needs. Second, work visas should be issued to current illegals that can substantiate that they have a legitimate job and have been paying the required taxes. After these two steps have been accomplished there should be significant penalties, and enforcement, for employers that hire anyone with out a legitimate work visa. Then anyone that is in this country illegally should not be afforded any free services and should be deported. The process for obtaining U.S. citizenship should be no different than it is for everybody else. The only reason we have so many illegals is that for years the government gave their tacit approval by only occasionally cracking down on employers that hire illegals. When people in other countries know that the only way they can get a job and benefits in the USA is to come here legally the border walls will not be necessary.
